JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:       Security Guard

Reports to:      Security Supervisor

Direct Subordinates:  NA


Purpose of Role:

The Security Guard’s primary goal is the identification and prevention of situations that might put the client and employees at risk. This is achieved through the following tasks:

• Building and perimeter protection

• Intrusion and access control

• Alarm and surveillance system monitoring and response

• Fire prevention and control

• Emergency/disaster response

• Prevention of theft

• Accident prevention

• Safety protection

• Enforcement of rules, regulations and policies


Duties:

• Provides a visual security presence.

• Protects buildings and grounds (including all contents, occupants, customers, and visitors) by enforcing rules and regulations related to security and directing both foot and vehicular traffic

• Investigates and/or reports hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to Shift Leader for correction or follow- up actions; maintains contact with Shift Leader.

• Conducts inspections of packages and vehicles as required

• Checks doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are tightly closed and locked; notes in written log any unlocked doors/windows; submits information to Shift Leader.

• Observes activity and traffic in assigned area to enforce the Centre’s rules/regulations; alerts visitors of infractions.

• Assists any persons in building or on grounds needing directions or information

• Escorts people/property to desired destination when monies, documents or safety of property or persons are a concern.

• Responds to alarms and dispatched calls; decides what actions to take based on situation, facts known and position limitations.

• Decides when incident requires written report; decides which report form to use and submits to Shift Leader

• Unlocks buildings/doors after checking identification and compliance with the Centre’s policies.

• Records information pertaining to the security of people, products, and vehicles, and reporting this to the security supervisor or, where so designated, the client’s representative


Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

• Knowledge of basic security and fire inspection procedures.

• Skill in both verbal and written communication.

• Skill in observing situations and decision making.

• Skill in dealing courteously with the public.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, follow detailed procedures, and have good customer service skills.

• Must be able to work collegially and independent of intensive supervision.


Required Qualifications and Experience:

• One year experience in security field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

• High School certificate or equivalent required.

• Possession of current Ghanaian driver's license upon employment may be required for specified positions.
